Spring is fast approaching, but I’m still clutching to my furs and coats (go away, sun!). It’s still a little chilly here in the morning, but the warm weather comes fast in the south. Summer is my least favorite month, I don’t like the sun and I don’t like the “fashion” or shorts and flip flop sandals…
This 1960’s peach and mink trim top has been hanging out in my closet for years. I could never figure out a good way to style it. It looks great with high waist skinny jeans, and boots or can be worn with a skirt (for another post!). Do you ever find pieces you love, but have trouble fitting them into daily wear?
Spring is officially here, but most days haven’t quite felt like it. I love the wintertime and the snow, but spring is the battery recharger I am longing for. With spring, comes energy, creativity, drive, and new beginnings. I am ready to tackle some new creative projects this year, including getting better with portrait photography, and working harder to make positive changes and additions to Heirloomen.
It’s easy to get in a creative slump when you run a business that relies heavily on artistic vision and visual content. It’s also hard because I am a one woman show with little support to help create. I’d like to do better about collaborating and networking with other small business owners or photographers so we can learn and grow together. I currently take all of my photos on a tripod after staging the shot. I need some models!
As for the look in these photos, I paired an Edwardian blouse with a 1970’s sun hat, vintage metal necklace and 1990’s Ferragamo flats. These vintage pieces together look great with a comfy pair of modern blue jeans.
It’s been a chilly January! I wore this out to watch the Steeler’s playoff game (they lost), so I wanted to be in color. This is a mostly modern outfit paired with a cute vintage hat. I love to incorporate one or two vintage items into an outfit, especially for going to work. You know.. dress codes.. *eye roll*.

It’s the first weekend of December. Virginia sure stays warmer than what I’m used to. I’ve only lived in cities farther north, all the way into the snow belt. The fall/winter season is probably my favorite time of year, now, though I can’t say it always was. It’s the best season for fashion: coats, boots, wools, fur hats. There will not be many very chilly days in Richmond, as there never is, but I look forward to the inevitable snow and a big, heavy coat.
The season changes keep me moving, keep me creative, keep me looking at things differently. I change with the seasons.
I am also adding new winter and formal items to the Heirloomen shop, daily. Be sure to keep checking, as some items go quickly with people on the hunt for the perfect gift for loved ones or themselves.
What I’m Wearing
1970’s Tan Straw Sun Hat
1970’s Blue Linen Skirt
1950’s White Woven Hard Purse
Thrifted Elephant Tee
Modern White Perforated Heels
Summer in Virginia means hot weather and bright sun. I have fair skin and burn easily, so I like to be covered up from the rays. My wardrobe consists of lightweight fabrics, and large hats to keep the sun off my face. As much as I tried to be patriotic for the 4th of July weekend, I don’t own a lot of red, so blue will have to do.
What I’m Wearing:
1910’s Edwardian Blouse
1950’s Black Sun Hat
Modern Black Shorts
Modern Bathing Suit Top
Modern Army Boots
The Richmond Canal Walk and James River Pipeline are located right in the heart of downtown Richmond, VA. Belle Isle and Brown’s Island offer beautiful recreation space and shore banks, perfect for cooling off in the hot summer. The river water was quite high in these photos, but usually there is more beach and exposed rocks to lay on. The river and canal walks make for a fun afternoon.
