I took a half-day off of work to go up and visit my friend Thomas (follow him on Instagram @jt_womack) in DC to photograph the gorgeous buildings and scenery of the nation’s capitol while the spring greens and blooms are lush.

Friday afternoon in May means, few tourists, blue skies, and decent weather, though it was a little hot. For expensive as it is to live int DC, there is so much to do that is free of charge. We took full advantage of the museums and attractions. I also walked 7 miles and deserved a bowl of pasta when I got back to Richmond.

Like my little bird tee-shirt? It’s one of my summer favorites – a vintage 1970’s top, I found it a few years back. Paired with my trusty combat boots – because, being practical is important when walking 7 miles in an afternoon!

James River Pipeline Walk

What I’m Wearing:
1910’s Edwardian Blouse
1950’s Black Sun Hat
Modern Black Shorts
Modern Bathing Suit Top
Modern Army Boots

The Richmond Canal Walk and James River Pipeline are located right in the heart of downtown Richmond, VA. Belle Isle and Brown’s Island offer beautiful recreation space and shore banks, perfect for cooling off in the hot summer. The river water was quite high in these photos, but usually there is more beach and exposed rocks to lay on. The river and canal walks make for a fun afternoon.
